Thomond Park remains one of the most feared rugby grounds in European rugby - it's official!

Moreover, the Limerick venue is predicted to be especially rocking this season as a rejuvenated Munster take to the 2023/24 European Champions Cup as reigning URC champions.

Both Owen Farrell, captain at English champions Saracens and star Stormers back-row Ben Jason-Davies, when asked which ground has the best atmosphere when it comes to European games, name-checked the famous Limerick venue.

Said England and Saracens star Farrell: "Growing up watching the competition I always thought Thomond Park would be a great place to play and luckily enough I got a few chances to play there. Not always been on the right side of the result though!"

"In more recent times there was an unbelievable atmosphere in the quarter-final at La Rochelle last year, it was a great place to play although it was not a great outcome for us so I'll leave that one.

"And one other, we have played quite a few games at Clermont over the years, it was unbelievable."

Stormers flanker Ben Jason-Dixon, also talking at the launch of the 2023/24 Champions Cup, added of La Rochelle where Leinster will open their European Champions Cup campaign:

"Obviously it would be great to play at La Rochelle but we won't have that opportunity this year. We are playing Stade Francais in the Stade de France so that seems like a great day.

"We played at Thomond Park last Saturday and running out there with all the lights was amazing, it wasn't a full crowd but it was a great experience if I can agree with Owen."

La Rochelle skipper Raymond added of the Stade Marcel-Deflandre: "I might be biased but I would say our ground is a great place to play.

"We have absolutely the greatest of supporters in the aspect of when it is not going well they are just as loud.

"It is going to be even more crazy because we have put up a new stand area and that is going to add to the decibels when we play there now."
